The Laboratory of Western European and North American History was established in 1964 and is one of the earliest laboratories of the Institute of World History.

This room mainly studies the modern and contemporary history of the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Canada and other countries.

The room once had Professor Huang Shaoxiang, a famous expert on world history of the older generation in China, and also gathered a group of first-generation world history experts trained by New China, such as researchers Zhang Chunnian, Liao Xuesheng, Cheng Xijun, Sun Chengmu, Wang Zhende, Zhang Haitao, Zhu Guisheng, Zhou Jianqing and other researchers.
