The founder of prajna temple is Xu Xuan Tiantai Sect Master. In Memoirs of Shadow Dust, he recorded the preparation process of prajna temple at that time.
1922, Master Xu Xian hosted in Manjuji, Shenyang. He was invited by Ding Shumin and Zhang Ziyuan, presidents of Jihei Charity Federation, to give lectures in Changchun, and many monks and nuns went to listen at that time. Among them, there is Ma Jingdong from Du Jun Administration Office. After listening to the master's sermon, he advocated building a temple in Changchun and began preparations. And asked the master for the name of the temple. At that time, Master Xu Xian named the temple prajna temple because he was talking about the Diamond Sutra.
According to the master's memory, 1922, prajna temple began to raise funds. After deciding to build the temple, Ma Jingdong, the founder, asked the section chief to raise 500 yuan Ocean from Sun Liechen, the governor of Jilin Province. The preparation of prajna temple has also been supported by many gentlemen. Construction started on 1927 after various financing.
1927, Shengjing Times recorded that senior officials, rich gentry and celebrities in Changchun launched a plan to help prepare materials. After several ups and downs, from 193 1 to 1936, prajna temple Daxiong Hall, Tianwang Hall, East-West Attached Hall, Tibetan Scripture Building and Fence were built in turn. Unfortunately, however, the September 18th Incident broke out before the opening ceremony of the temple. In the urban planning of the Puppet Manchukuo, the Japanese want to build roads in Changchun, and the location of prajna temple needs to be requisitioned. After consultation, the relocation fee and a piece of land larger than the original were given. So prajna temple was torn down and moved to its present position.
