Are you teaching yourself guitar or taking guitar lessons?
I have been learning guitar for a year since my freshman summer vacation. I am self-taught. Tell me about some of my experiences and feelings.

First, how to start self-study

The first time I came into contact with guitar was at my classmate's house. I tried to play his guitar at that time and found it interesting, so I bought a guitar myself. As a student, I didn't have any spare money, so I didn't take guitar lessons and started to teach myself.

I started learning through online video at first. In fact, a little search on the Internet can find many videos of this kind of introductory teaching. I've watched a lot, but I think the best introductory video is Pofei guitar teaching, which can be found in Youku. Quite clear, no suspense and showing off skills. But this video, including almost all other videos, is about guitar playing skills, so you still need to practice more by yourself.

At the beginning of self-study, we need to go through a process of grinding cocoons with our fingers. Before cocoon grinding, we basically can't stand playing with our fingers for half an hour, but after cocoon grinding, basically, this is not a problem. So you need to stick to it.

Furthermore, when you teach yourself, you'd better start with songs. I think practicing the whole song can enhance our interest, but controlling the difficulty is easier said than done. My own way is to find more scores.

After a year's study, I have been able to play most of the songs. I can play and sing as long as I practice, but I still don't know some very advanced skills.

Second, the disadvantages of self-study

Self-study must have many disadvantages.

The first is that the basic skills are not solid. Guitar actually pays great attention to basic skills, especially the posture and skills of pressing and plucking strings. Only by mastering them skillfully can we be close to perfection and play with emotion. But self-study without teacher's guidance is easy to make mistakes. This will be difficult to correct in the future.

Another is self-study. Without solid knowledge of music theory and systematic study, it is easy to encounter bottlenecks. This is also the problem I am facing now. I feel that I can learn most songs, but I can't write my own songs or improvise. I can't understand the meaning of many songs, and I can't remember the score and fingering as quickly as a professional musician. The debts owed by these self-study students will be paid back sooner or later. Moreover, there are almost no advanced teaching videos on the internet after getting started, so there is no way to learn them. This is a big problem of self-study.

Third, what should I pay attention to when reporting for class?

So in fact, in my opinion, I suggest taking lessons to learn guitar, so that I can play for a long time and make progress all the time. However, it should also be noted that many guitar classes in society, especially those for students or some small cities, are often introductory, that is, to teach you an amateur level of self-study like me.

Therefore, when we sign up for the class, we must choose the guitar class of a professional and responsible teacher who is not only "quick to get started" but also able to study systematically and comprehensively, which is the most effective.
