1. If you are an employee, your unit must handle social security for you, which includes basic pension insurance, basic medical insurance, unemployment insurance, work-related injury insurance, and maternity insurance.

2. Individual payment must be made with a local household registration. Go to the Social Security Bureau with your ID card, deduction account and household registration book. You can buy pension insurance, medical insurance (including maternity insurance) and unemployment insurance, but you must buy pension insurance and the other two insurances.
