Revise pesticide residue standards to meet public demand

In addition, the Ministry of Health and Welfare revised the Inspection Method of Pesticide Residues in Food-Multi-residue Analysis Method (V) and updated the Allowable Limits of Pesticide Residues. According to the quantitative limits of the method, the standards were formulated for 8 items of 7 pesticides.
The approval and registration of pesticides in Taiwan Province Province and the determination of residue tolerance are handled by the Agriculture Committee of the Executive Yuan and the Ministry of Health and Welfare according to their respective powers and responsibilities. In addition to taking into account international norms, it also takes into account the needs of domestic agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery. The norms are formulated according to the eating habits of China people to ensure people's food safety.
With reference to international standards, it is jointly formulated by experts from various ministries and commissions.
For imported agricultural products, the crop growth environment, pest control and drug use methods are different from those in China. In order to meet the national dietary needs, the Food and Drug Administration has revised the application for allowable pesticide residues in imported agricultural products, and its evaluation principles are the same. After consulting the scientific data such as pesticide toxicity data, crop residue regression test data, foreign approved registration and use methods, and referring to international standards, the cumulative risk of China people's total consumption of various crops was evaluated.
We also discussed with the Agriculture Committee and obtained the approval of the Expert Committee, with a view to rationalizing the use and management of pesticides in China on the premise of protecting the food safety of domestic consumers.
Violators will be fined up to 200 million yuan.
In addition, the Food and Drug Administration continuously monitors pesticide residues in agricultural products on the market. In case of violation of the allowable standards for pesticide residues, a fine of more than NT$ 60,000 and less than NT$ 200 million will be imposed according to Article 5 15 of the Food Safety and Hygiene Administration Law, and the local health bureau and the competent agricultural authorities will trace the source of the goods.
