He translated and sorted out the first professional data in the field of hepatobiliary surgery in China, creatively put forward the five-leaf and four-segment method, successfully established the anatomical model of the liver, invented a variety of surgical methods, and constantly improved and standardized them. It is no exaggeration to say that before Academician Wu, there was no branch of hepatobiliary surgery in modern medicine in China, and Academician Wu laid the theoretical and technical foundation for this subject.
Second, the diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer has achieved good results. Liver cancer may surprise everyone when they hear this word, and it is true. Because liver cancer is generally found in the middle and late stage, the survival rate after surgical treatment is very low, and many patients in China are caused by cirrhosis, which increases the difficulty of treatment. Academician Wu initiated a series of new therapies and achieved good results in the treatment of liver cancer, especially small liver cancer. Basically, the 5-year survival rate after operation is over 80%.
Third, we are willing to train the younger generation of talents. When WU GANG took part in the work, he got Qiu Fazu's patient guidance, which led to his later achievements. So later, he was also willing to train talents. In addition to setting an example, he also set up the Wu Foundation to help and support those outstanding scientific research projects and outstanding talents. It is this kind of generation-to-generation interaction with mentoring that has kept our hepatobiliary surgery at the leading level in the world for a long time.
