In the 1990s, we built the first nuclear power plant in China-Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. Pakistan immediately signed a cooperation agreement with China to build a nuclear power plant in Chashma, Pakistan, funded by Pakistan and China, with a contract value of 600 million US dollars, or about 4.2 billion RMB. The project started construction on 1993 and was put into commercial use in 2000. This is a 300,000 kW PWR nuclear power plant, the first commercial nuclear power plant exported from China, and its construction technology adopted the most advanced nuclear power technology at that time.
However, the construction process is not so smooth. Chashma nuclear power plant is not a simple copy of Qinshan nuclear power plant. Chashma area is located in the earthquake-prone area, which puts forward high requirements for earthquake resistance. Therefore, foundations, workshops, pipelines and equipment all need to be re-analyzed, otherwise they can't meet the requirements of nuclear safety.
Finally, after seven years of hard work, we not only helped Pakistan successfully build the first nuclear power plant, but also trained a large number of outstanding engineers, which laid a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of other nuclear power projects. Later, Pakistan signed several nuclear power plant projects with China. At present, in addition to Chashma, China has also participated in the construction of Karachi nuclear power project, and the construction cost has reached 60 billion yuan. This is the fourth nuclear power plant that China has assisted in the construction of Pakistan Railway. After all the projects are completed, 30% of the electricity consumption in Pakistan will be solved.
Finally, the headmaster believes that a country's economic development can not be separated from a steady supply of electricity, and often those countries that lack electricity are relatively backward. The three most mainstream power generation modes in the world are thermal power, hydropower and nuclear power, among which nuclear power consumes the least energy and generates the most stable electricity. Pakistan is well aware of its power demand, so it has cooperated decisively with China, and we in China have also come up with the most advanced nuclear power technology to be honest with each other. It can be said that Pakistan is very smart.
