In the early 1980s, overseas Chinese in the United States set up a preparatory committee at 1984 initiated by enthusiastic educators at home and abroad. Founded in 1986, it began to enroll students. In the first year, there are only three majors: Chinese Department, English Department and Management Department. The academic system lasts for three years and only local students from Zhongshan are enrolled. Later, computer, applied chemistry, food packaging, agronomy, secretarial, tourism English, business administration and other majors were opened one after another, basically forming a comprehensive university with both arts and sciences. Students who pass the required credits will be awarded graduation certificates by Sun Yat-sen University. Self-employment is recommended by the school and chosen by the employer after graduation. Students with excellent grades can pass the exam and be promoted to the corresponding majors in the undergraduate class of Sun Yat-sen University. Sun Wen College also holds adult education and various training courses to cultivate computer, English and Chinese secretaries and management talents that are urgently needed locally. Accept the entrustment of enterprises to train students. The school was sponsored by overseas Chinese from Zhongshan, Hong Kong and Macao, donated books and instruments and set up a foundation. Overseas Chinese donated money to build teaching buildings and libraries.
