Introduction to Hua Luogeng's Collected Works

The Institute of Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Science Press held a launch ceremony for the new book "Collected Works of Hua Luogeng" at the Zhongguancun Book Building in Beijing on May 29 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous Chinese mathematician Mr. Hua Luogeng.

"Collected Works of Hua Luogeng" is published by Science Press, with a total of 9 volumes, including 3 volumes of number theory, 2 volumes of algebra, 2 volumes of theory of functions of multiple complex variables, and 2 volumes of applied mathematics.

The book was supported by the National Publishing Fund, and many mathematics scholars including Academicians Wang Yuan, Academician Wan Zhexian, Academician Lu Qikeng, and Academician Yang Le participated in the compilation work.

Academician Wan Zhexian, a disciple of Mr. Hua Luogeng, Zhou Xiangyu, director of the Institute of Mathematics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Yang Dezhuang, director of the Hua Luogeng Mathematics Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the launching ceremony and introduced Hua Luogeng's outstanding contributions in terms of scientific research and education.

Yang Dezhuang said that Hua Luogeng not only made outstanding contributions in the academic field, but also devoted a lot of energy to science popularization work. Unfortunately, there are very few "master-type" science popularization workers like Hua Luogeng.

Yang Dezhuang was the first applied mathematics student trained by Hua Luogeng at the University of Science and Technology of China. After graduation, he followed Hua Luogeng in mathematics research for a long time.

He told reporters: "In addition to focusing on the academic field, Mr. Hua also attaches great importance to the mathematics quality of the whole people." For the latter, Hua Luogeng devoted a lot of effort. On the one hand, he established mathematics competitions to select mathematics talents among middle school students, and on the other hand, he targeted the public

Promote mathematical techniques and mathematical methods.

"When facing the public, Hua Lao takes 'useful and understandable' as the standard. For example, the overall planning method and optimization method that allow the public to benefit a lot from mathematics are all explained in the plainest language by Hua Lao

When explaining the coordination method, he used the example of a guest boiling water to make tea.
