Bai Juyi was a poet in the Tang Dynasty who was a historian of Hangzhou.

1. Reasons

Bai Juyi is a famous and far-reaching poet and writer in the Tang Dynasty in the history of China literature. He is known as the "Poet Magic" and "Poet King". In the second year of Tang Changqing (822), Bai Juyi, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, disliked the obsession of the dignitaries in Chang 'an, and asked Tang Muzong to be sent to Hangzhou as a secretariat.

2. Measures taken by Hangzhou secretariat

During Hangzhou secretariat's tenure, I saw that six ancient wells in Hangzhou were in disrepair for a long time, so I took charge of dredging six wells to solve the drinking water problem of Hangzhou people. Seeing that the West Lake silted up farmland and was dry, the dam was built to accumulate lake water, so as to facilitate irrigation and alleviate the harm caused by drought, and a Stone Record of Qiantang Lake was made, in which the policies, methods and matters needing attention for controlling lake water were carved and placed by the lake for future generations to know.

It had a great influence on the lake management in Hangzhou. Before leaving office, Bai Juyi left an official salary in the state treasury as a fund for the official turnover of the officials who later managed Hangzhou, and then made up the original amount afterwards. When the fund operated until the Huang Chao Rebellion, when Huang Chao arrived in Hangzhou, the documents were burned and lost, and the fund disappeared.

Characteristics of personal works:

1. Theme

Concentration of themes is one of the artistic characteristics of Bai Juyi's allegorical poems. He usually only chooses the most typical thing, highlighting a theme, "a sad thing", and the theme is very clear. In order to convey the theme to readers more clearly, or add a small order under the title of the poem to point out the theme, or "show your will" to highlight the theme. He can grasp the characteristics of the characters and draw a vivid and vivid image with the method of drawing.

2. Poetic theory

Bai Juyi's thoughts integrate Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, with Confucianism as the leading factor. Mencius said that "being rich helps the world, and being poor is immune to it" is the creed he followed all his life. His ambition of "helping both the economy and the people" is mainly based on Confucian benevolent policies, including the theory of Huang Lao, the technique of managing Xiao and the method of applying to Korea; His heart of "being good alone" has absorbed the concepts of contentment, uniformity and freedom of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi.

The boundary between them is roughly that Bai was demoted to Jiangzhou Sima. Bai Juyi not only left nearly 3, poems, but also put forward a whole set of poetic theories. He compared poetry to a fruit tree, and put forward the viewpoint of "root feeling, Miao words, Hua Sheng and real meaning" (Nine Books with Yuan Dynasty). He believed that "emotion" was the fundamental condition of poetry, and "those who touched people should not care about emotion first" (Nine Books with Yuan Dynasty).
