By observing Turkey’s economic growth in recent years, it is not difficult to see that Turkey’s economy has been growing rapidly since Turkish President Erdogan came to power. After winning the 2002 election, Erdogan actively promoted neoliberal economic policies. It has privatized all state-owned enterprises in Turkey, vigorously introduced foreign advanced science and technology, attracted foreign investment, and achieved very good economic achievements.
After careful analysis, it is not difficult to find three main reasons for Turkey’s economic development:
1. Islamic financial industry. Turkey's geographical location is very special. Most of its territory is on the Anatolian Peninsula, adjacent to the core area of ??Islam in the Middle East, and its economic center, Istanbul, and other northwest parts of its territory span the Bosporus. The strait belongs to Europe. During the Ottoman Empire, Turkey was an important hub connecting trade between Asia and Europe. Now, it has become an important capital gateway connecting Europe and Islamic countries.
2. Real estate industry and infrastructure construction boom. After a large amount of hot money flowed into Turkey, Turkey did not use it to actively develop industry, promote industrial upgrading, and develop high-tech industries. As a nation with traditional nomadic and commercial economic forms, the Turks have little interest in industrial development, so a large amount of overseas capital has flowed into the real estate industry. This is not a unique feature of Türkiye. It is exactly the same in the United Arab Emirates, which is separated by the Arabian Peninsula.
3. The private sector increases leverage. After Erdogan actively promoted the neoliberal economy, the state-owned sector was privatized, while the private sector took advantage of the prosperous financial industry and the massive inflow of hot money to increase leverage.
As a typical Turkist, Erdogan has been working hard to restore the glory of the Ottoman Empire in recent years. Due to Turkey's rapid economic development in recent years, it has also attracted the attention of many countries in Europe and the United States. There is no doubt about the progress Erdogan has brought to Turkey.
