The Luoding Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government regard planting cinnamon as a way to develop characteristic agriculture and establish local pillar industries. In 2004, the city’s planting area reached 460,000 acres, making it the main cinnamon production base in Guangdong Province. , producing more than 10,000 tons of cinnamon bark and 450 tons of cinnamon oil. With the four towns of Qubin, Xinle, Lishao and Silun as the main production areas, 18 of the city's 24 towns grow cinnamon, and a 500-acre cinnamon nursery has been built in Qubin Town. There are nearly 100,000 rural households in Guangxi, accounting for more than 40% of the total number of rural households in the city.
In terms of processing and sales, cinnamon trees are harvested, peeled to make cinnamon bark, and the branches and leaves are processed and distilled to make cinnamon oil. In 2004, more than 10,000 tons of cinnamon bark and more than 450 tons of cinnamon oil were processed annually. Processing and transformation account for more than 98% of the total output of this product. Cinnamon bark and cinnamon oil are exported to countries around the world through Hong Kong by the provincial foreign trade department. In 2004, it earned US$12.65 million in foreign exchange.
In August 2002, Luoding City was designated as the hometown of cinnamon in China. The cinnamon bark was registered with the Sailboat brand and exported as an inspection-free product.
