There is a primitive village, Wengding Village, in Cangyuan County, Lincang, Yunnan, China. The folk customs of the village are the epitome of the cultural inheritance and development of the entire Wa region. They are the birthplace of Wa culture in the world, the last living body of Chinese tribal culture, and a living museum of Wa culture.

Wengding means "the place shrouded in clouds and mist" in Wa language. Wengding still retains the characteristics and customs of the original Wa folk houses. The traditional pole-railed thatch-roof fork houses of the Wa people are completely preserved in the village. They use the most primitive bamboo and wood utensils and follow the patrilineal clan social headman system. It is a place that can integrate the Wa people It is a natural ecological village that integrates the primitive religion of Animism and Theravada Buddhism. It is also the best-preserved primitive community village in China so far, and is known as "the last primitive tribe in China".

Wengding Village is one of the subordinate village committees of Mengjiao Nationality Township, Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province. The village has a history of nearly 400 years. Wengding Ancient Village has completely preserved the unique cultural traditions and architectural styles of the Wa's primitive religion, production and living customs, etc. It is a natural museum of the traditional history and culture of the Wa and a museum reflecting the folk customs and sentiments of China's ethnic minorities. The base is one of the last nations in China to transition from primitive society to socialist society.

Wengding Village's "Wa Wooden Drum Dance" and "Sigangli Legend" were included in the national intangible cultural heritage protection list, and "Wengding Village Wa Traditional Culture Reserve" and "Wa Woodcarving Production Techniques" were provincial-level Protected list, it was hailed as "the last primitive tribe" by "China National Geographic" magazine.
