Recently, the WEY brand officially released preview images of its new models. At the same time, the official also stated that the new cars will be built on a platform different from all current "VV series" models. According to previous news, the new car is code-named P01. It is built with a new non-load-bearing body and is on the same platform as the hardcore SUV-Haval H9.
According to the official trailer, the new car is indeed quite hardcore. The round headlights, muscular hood, protruding bumpers and wheel eyebrow design make it look like a tough guy from the front face. As for the rear of the car, the external spare tire also "exposes" its off-road vehicle positioning. It can be found that the overall shape of the new car is completely different from the current "VV series" models.
As for power, it does not "waste" such a tough guy appearance. The new car is expected to use the same power configuration as the H9, equipped with an EN series 2.0T engine, and meet the National VI b emission standards. The engine has a maximum power of 245 horsepower (180 kilowatts) and a peak torque of 385 Nm. The transmission system may be matched with an 8-speed manual transmission, and of course the four-wheel drive system will not be absent.
However, compared to the above information, the naming of the new car may be the biggest attraction of the car.
For example, the previously released Haval Big Dog has such a unique name precisely because it is different from the current Haval brand models in design and hardcore positioning. The same is true for WEY's P01, so it can be predicted that the new car will most likely not use the "VVX" naming method, but will adopt a brand new name like the Haval Big Dog.
It is worth mentioning that, judging from the previously registered trademarks of Great Wall Motors, in addition to the two confirmed names of Havaldog and Euler Cat, there are also several names related to WEY in the list. In the column, they are Wei·Comfortable, WEY·Comfortable and Comfortable. Although they seem to be somewhat inconsistent with the positioning of this car, judging from the known information, if Great Wall does not register other trademarks related to WEY, then the official name of the new car in the future is likely to be one of them.
Why does Great Wall favor hard-core off-road vehicles so much?
As we all know, Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motors, has always had a Jeep complex in his heart. Therefore, when it was rumored that FCA was going to sell Jeep, many people thought that Great Wall would acquire Jeep. Although both parties later refuted the rumors, this did not happen. This does not mean that Great Wall will give up on the hardcore model market.
Currently, Great Wall Motors is vigorously building hardcore models. In addition to the existing Haval H5 and H9, Great Wall Motors has also launched the Great Wall Cannon and the upcoming Haval Big Dog. But what can be found is that the prices of most of its models are between 100,000 and 200,000. Only one H9 has exceeded the 200,000 mark, but it is obviously powerless to go further.
At this time, WEY, the high-end strategic brand created by Great Wall Motors, comes in handy. The launch of a new series of models with hard-core positioning through the WEY brand will not only enrich the WEY brand's product line and enter market segments, but also once again hit the ceiling of self-owned brand SUVs to enhance WEY's brand power.
To sum up, compared to the Haval Big Dog, this hardcore SUV of the WEY brand is obviously more anticipated. Regarding its highlights, I think there are three points:
First, to what height can Great Wall push this WEY model?
Second, WEY, which focuses on luxury, is Under the rather tough appearance, how should the interior design balance luxury and practicality?
3. What kind of sales report can it deliver after being launched?
It is reported that the new car is expected to make its debut at the Chengdu Auto Show and is expected to go on sale in 2021. Regarding the above points, let us wait and see.
