What is a commodity code? What's the difference between commodity code and bar code?
Commodity coding: that is, the process of compiling commodity codes and assigning corresponding commodity codes to a certain commodity or a certain category of commodities according to certain rules.

Difference:

1 has different meanings.

Commodity code and commodity bar code are two different concepts. Commodity codes are digital information representing commodities, and commodity bar codes are symbols representing these information. In the work of commodity bar code, in order to make commodity bar code symbols, the commodity should be digitally coded first.

The codes of commodity bar codes are compiled according to the uniform rules stipulated by EAN, and are divided into standard version and abbreviated version. The standard version of the barcode code consists of 13 digits, which is called EAN- 13 code for short. The shortened product barcode code consists of 8 digits, which is called EAN-8 code.

2. Different characteristics

In commodity bar code, the combination of bar and space is called bar code symbol, and its corresponding human identification character is also the commodity identification code represented by bar code symbol. Bar code symbols have the characteristics of simple operation, fast information collection, large information collection, high reliability and low cost.

The uniqueness of commodity code refers to the one-to-one correspondence between commodity items and their identification codes, that is, a commodity item has only one code, and a code only identifies the same commodity item. Once the commodity item code is determined, it will never change. Even if the production and supply of the commodity stop, the code shall not be allocated to other commodity items for a period of time (3 years in some countries).

3. Numbers have different meanings.

Barcodes are generally divided into four parts, with a score of 3-5-4- 1. The first part represents the country, the second part represents the manufacturer, the third part represents the commodity code when it leaves the factory, and the fourth part is the efficacy code.

The standard version of the barcode code consists of 13 digits, which is called EAN- 13 code for short. The first three digits of EAN- 13 code and EAN-8 code are called "prefix codes", which are used to identify EAN members and are managed and allocated by EAN. Different countries or regions have different prefix codes. At present, there is a prefix code of 10 in China: 690-699, but 696-699 code has not been adopted yet.
