Nanxuan shed tears, not Wangyantai to express the author's feelings

"Nanxuan sheds tears alone, not looking at Yantai" means that the reason why she sheds tears alone in Nanxuan is because she cannot be reused by the current dynasty. It expresses the poet's depressed mood of having empty ambitions but having no way to serve the country.

An Evening Title in the South Pavilion

Xu Hun

The water lingers under the city, and the tide rushes towards the wild boat.

The birds are frightened, the fruits are falling from the mountains, the turtles are green and the duckweeds are blooming.

A thousand volumes of white-souled books, a glass of beautiful wine.

Nanxuan is crying, not looking at Yantai.

Abbreviated translation:

The green water of Nanting under the city lingers around, and several boats are washed by the tide from time to time.

The turtles paddled in the water and separated the green duckweed, and the mountain birds flew up and dropped the wild fruits on the trees. (The first two couplets describe the scenery around the South Pavilion, which has a leisurely feel)

My hair has turned gray after reading a thousand curls. Why not make my old face look red after drinking a glass of wine here. (This couplet touches the scene, and I lament that although my hair has turned white after studying a thousand curls, I am still in a leisurely life, how can I not be drunk)

I can’t help but burst into tears when I think of the fact that I have so much talent but can’t put it to use. It’s a pity. It's Nanxuan, not Wangyan Terrace for recruiting talents. (This couplet describes my grief and anger at not being reused)
