Progress in Citroen Trademark Infringement Cases
Speaking of "Polaris" (hereinafter referred to as Polaris), I believe many people may not have heard of it. The brand is a high-performance electric vehicle brand under Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. Actually this brand is very interesting. Polaris existed in Volvo from the beginning. 20 15 Volvo buys Polaris, which belongs to Volvo's high-performance modification department. Then it was formally established on 20 17, 10, 17. Headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, it has become a brand-new independent electric high-performance car brand. There are production bases in China, Chengdu and Taizhou, focusing on the European market. There are many models of this brand. As early as the establishment of Polaris automobile brand, the first model Polaris 1 was released, and the price was as high as 1.45 million, limited to 500 units worldwide.

Actually, it doesn't matter whether it can be sold or not. It is important to show consumers that this is a high-end car brand. First release an ultra-luxury car that ordinary people can't afford, and then launch a relatively civilian vehicle.

In fact, now all major manufacturers understand that after the brand is established, people will think it is a high-end brand from high to low, but it is very difficult from low to high, because consumers already think it is a low-end car, and even if the car is no better, the brand will still pull down the grade. Weilai is a good example. For the first time, the pure electric supercar EP9 was released, and the subsequent audiences such as ES8 and ES6 were wider, which would make consumers psychologically think that they were buying high-end brands. So Polaris 1 sets the brand tone first, and then Polaris 2? The subsidized price of Polaris 2 is 4 1.8 million yuan, so it can be as bright as Tesla Model3.

This car was also released in February 20 19, and was seen at this year's Beijing Auto Show. At the time of live broadcast, I also said that it should be an electric car owned by Volvo, and of course it is also a car owned by Geely now, because the overall design style is very similar to S60, and the front face is also designed by Raytheon's hammer. But in any case, Polaris still maintains its pure Volvo lineage.

Having said that, do you know anything about the Polaris model? Of course, since we focus on the European market, our sales in China are naturally small. After all, only first-tier cities such as Beijing have exhibition halls, but other cities can't see them. However, it can also be seen that Geely wants to take the first step to the high-end electric vehicle brand. Going abroad and entering the European market is also the glory of the country.

However, although Polaris is not well-known in China, it can be brought into our sight recently: Recently, Polaris was sued by Citroen, an old French car company. The reason is that Citroen believes that Polaris infringes the trademark right of DS, because the logo of Polaris is a combination of two boomerangs. Citroen thinks this logo looks similar to the logo of its high-end brand DS. Finally, Polaris had to close its website in France and not use the trademark for six months. At the same time, it was fined 150000 euros, about RMB 165438 yuan. Forgive me, I really don't see any similarities.

First of all, although Polaris is a boomerang combination, its design is angular, and the design of DS is more rounded. Furthermore, the letter "D" of DS is obviously designed before the shape of one boomerang, and S is the letter "S" composed of two boomerang. What is it like?

Although the court ruled that Polaris lost the case, my personal opinion is that Polaris logo has nothing in common with Citroen's DS logo. It can only be said that in the European market, Geely still has a long way to go to get a share, and this kind of competition is much more cruel than that at home.
