A brief history of the brand development of Parker pens

1888 George Sanford Pike, a telecommunications teacher in Janesville, Wisconsin, USA, invented a "better pen" because he was tired of repairing his students' pens. A year later it was patented and put into production.

1889 George Parker obtains the first patent for a new fountain pen and ink supply device.

1892 George Parker and insurance practitioner W.F. Palmer became partners and founded the Parker Pen Company in Janesville.

1894 Parker patents the Lucky Curve ink delivery mechanism for the fountain pen, making the company a major player in the rapidly growing fountain pen market. The design principle of this device is that when the pen is placed upright on the non-use surface, the ink is transported back to the storage part of the pen barrel through the pressure of the suction pipe. It became Parker's main product until the 1970s.

1898 The easy-to-remove pen cover was patented.

1899 Seamless fountain pen patented. On December 10, Parker's seamless pen was used to sign the peace treaty between the United States and Spain.

1900 The golden filigree lucky ring pen is launched. The top tapered design of the Parker pen case is patented, making the pen case more stable. 1903 Parker's first overseas distributor is established in Scandinavia.

1904 Parker develops and produces the first mechanical ink filling system, using rubber bladders to store ink.

1905 Development of the ‘Spear-head’ ink supply system.

1907 Parker launches sterling silver and gold snake-shaped fountain pens.

1911 The improved Lucky Curve ink supply device is patented.

1912 Parker produces the first safety spiral pen cover, named Jack Knife.

1913 Ladies' fountain pen with gold ring for fastening a forged strap. This concept led to an improved version 60 years later, which achieved unprecedented success.

1916 Push-button refill device introduced, 'washer' pocket clip design patented.

In 1917, the U.S. United Front Department commissioned George Parker to produce its unique trench pen so that soldiers could write letters with portable ink. Its unique black ink particles can convert water into ink in the pen barrel.

1918 The annual sales record exceeded US$1 million.

1919 Parker Pen begins construction on a new five-story factory in Janesville.

1933 Parker's improved airless refill device is unveiled to the world in the transparent 'Vacumatic' vacuum fountain pen. As soon as the new pen was launched, its sales were an instant success. Its proud crystal-clear material and the beautiful and elegant new arrow-shaped pocket pen clip have become Parker's most widely respected product trademarks. The ‘Vacuum Fountain Pen’ has twice the ink capacity of a ‘Century’ pen of the same size. The 'Vacuum Pen' held the record as Parker's best-selling product for 12 years.

1937 Company founder George Parker passed away. The amazing brand founded by him will go down in history forever and leave a profound impact on the history of world writing.

1941 The famous Parker 51 series was launched at the 51st anniversary celebration of Parker. It is one of the best-selling products in Parker’s history and has been identified as one of the best-designed consumer products in the world. The pen barrel is smooth in shape and made of transparent synthetic resin and can resist corrosion from alkaline substances in the ink.

1945 Pike was used to sign the surrender of German and Italian troops in northwest Italy. General D.E. Eisenhower used the Parker 51 to sign the armistice agreement on the European front during World War II. On the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, General Douglas MacArthur used a Parker Duofold (Century) pen that he had collected for twenty years to sign the armistice agreement on the Pacific Theater of World War II.

1948 The Parker 21 series was launched in the United States, targeting the low-price pen market (permanent ink), with five colors to choose from. 1949 The pure 24K gold President 51 series is launched, and Parker opens a branch in South Africa and the United States.

1954 The first Jotter ballpoint pen is launched.

1956 The Parker 61Jotter series is launched. Its classical shape becomes a contemporary style.

1957 The Parker T-ball series is first introduced.

1960 The pre-filled push-in ink refill was first introduced, first appearing in the Parker 45 series, and its innovative reforms brought greater convenience to writing.

1962 A special edition pen made from part of the material from the first American rockets that carried astronauts into space was sold only to important people and customers around the world.

1964 The first Parker 75 is released, made of sterling silver with gold plating.

1978 The Parker Falcon series was launched.

In 1981 the ‘arrow’ shaped series was launched, followed by the launch of the ‘Vector’ predecessor RB1.

1983 Parker's most luxurious series is launched: Parker Head of State series, including 18K pure gold, sterling silver and Chinese lacquer red and other different styles.

1986 Global acquisitions operation transferred to Newham, UK.

In 1987, the Duofold (Century) centenary pen launched by Parker to celebrate its 100th anniversary became a coveted collector's item.

1988 Parker held the centenary celebration of its outstanding writing journey, and the Parker 88 series was launched. Since then, it has continued to introduce new products and evolved into the ‘Rialto’ (style) series.
