How are hundreds of warships and submarines of the China Navy named?
according to the regulations on naming naval vessels promulgated on November 18th, 1978 and revised on July 8th, 1986, the first-class vessels and nuclear submarines are named by the General Staff Department, and the vessels of class 2 and below are named by the fleet headquarters.

1. The name of cruisers and warships above the first-level administrative region is named after the province (region) or phrase. Such as: Liaoning ship of PLA Navy

2. Destroyers and frigates are named after large and medium-sized cities;

3. Sweeping and mine-laying boats are named after states, while hunting submarines and missile boats are named after counties.

4. Dock landing ships and tank landing ships are named after "mountains".

5. Infantry landing ships are named after rivers.

6. The auxiliary boats are named by the name indicating the sea area and nature, followed by the serial number.

7. The nuclear submarine is named after the "Long March" plus the serial number;

8. Conventional torpedo submarines are named after "Great Wall" plus serial number, for example, the Great Wall 221 of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy

9. Conventional missile submarines are named after "Expedition" plus serial number;

the above names are selected from the jurisdiction of the fleet to which the ship belongs. The South China Sea Fleet is located in the south-central and southwest regions, the East China Sea Fleet is located in East China and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the North China Sea Fleet is located in Northeast China, North China and Northwest China.

Other support ships are named after some famous historical figures, such as Zhenghe training ship named after Zheng He, a famous navigator who sailed to the West, and Shichang national defense mobilization ship named after Deng Shichang, a hero of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895.
