How is the weather on the Qinghai-Tibet line from September 8th to early October?

Originally I just wanted to copy the climate chapter, but after thinking about it, I copied it all. I hope LZ won’t be too verbose.

"1. Road Chapter" Of course, riding and hiding is by road. The standard view is that there are four highways: Qinghai-Tibet, Sichuan-Tibet, Yunnan-Tibet, and Xinjiang. In fact, the end point of Yunnan-Tibet is halfway between Sichuan and Tibet. Therefore, the general routes for riding in Tibet are Qinghai-Tibet, Sichuan-Tibet, and Xinjiang-Tibet. There are only three ways to move in the first half of Sichuan-Tibet (plus the northern Sichuan-Tibet route). Recently, the ancient road between Yushu, Qinghai and Qamdo, Tibet has become easier to walk. So a fourth option emerged: Kangzang (ancient Tang-Tibetan Road). The Qinghai-Tibet Highway is divided into two sections: Xining-Golmud-Lhasa. The road section from Xining to Golmud passes through Riyue Mountain, Qinghai Lake, and Rubber Mountain to reach Chaka. Chaka to Golmud is divided into two roads, north and south. The northern line is on the northern edge of the Qaidam Basin, and the distance is about 140km longer than the southern line. It passes through Ulan, Delingha, Dachaidan, and Xitieshan. The southern route passes through the middle of the Qaidam Basin, and the current road condition is excellent. It passes through Wanggaxiu Mountain, Tuotu Mountain and Xiangride, with a distance of 780 kilometers. Golmud to Lhasa, passing through Nachitai, Xidatan, Kunlun Mountains, Bufrog Spring, Wudaoliang, Fengshan Mountain, Erdaogou, Tuotuo River, Yanshiping, Tanggula Mountain, Amdo, Shengrigong Mountain, and Nagqu , Damxung, Nyenchen Tanglha Mountain, Yangpajing. With a distance of 1,160 kilometers, the Qinghai-Tibet Highway is a national secondary highway trunk line with a road bed width of 10 meters and a slope of less than 7%. -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- Introduction to mileage and altitude of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway ----------- -------------------------------------------------- ----------------------- Xining 0 0 2200 Huangyuan 45 45 2600 A small uphill slope. The northern line passes through Ganzi, Derge, Qamdo and ends at Bangda. The southern route passes through Ya'an, Litang, Batang, Mangkang and ends at Bangda. Then go to Lhasa via Basu, Bomi and Nyingchi. The total length of the northern line is 2,410 kilometers and the total length of the southern line is 2,150 kilometers. The elevation difference along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway is the largest, and there are almost no flat roads along the entire line. The road is rugged, and July and August are the rainy season every year. There are often landslides, landslides, and mudslides. The Xinjiang-Tibet Highway starts in Yecheng, Xinjiang. The total length is 2840 kilometers. It is the road with the highest altitude. Arrive in Lhasa via Jieshan Daban, Doma, Shiquanhe, Geji, Gaize, Dongcuo, Tsole, Laga, Lazi, Shigatse and Gyantse. *************************************************** **********************************

Theory of "II. Climate" It is said that the best time to ride Tibet is in May and June every year. Mainly because there is less rain. In fact, most cyclists only have holidays in July and August. A lot of pain is inevitable. 1. Wind friends agree that going uphill is not scary, but going up against the wind is the worst. Because going uphill is like a deposit, you borrow it and you pay it back. No matter how many hills you climb, there will always be a time when you go downhill. Going against the wind is troublesome, just like losing money, you lose as much as you lose. It makes me uncomfortable thinking about it. In the Qaidam Basin, you sometimes encounter strong headwinds, which are like fines and extremely depressing. A tailwind is like winning the lottery. It's really cool. 2. Rain Everyone knows that colds can kill people. Then it's best not to get caught in the rain. It also depends on luck, a friend got a cold, fever and diarrhea together. There is no death. Rain is inevitable, how much is a question. There were all kinds of rain along the way. It rains more on the section from Xining to Golmud. There is a drizzle in Rubber Mountain. It was like smoke and mist, and my whole body was wet without even realizing it. There was a sudden rain in the Gobi Desert. The sky was blue and white with white clouds, and the sun was shining brightly. Suddenly, huge raindrops fell from a gray cloud above our heads. It rained heavily in Dachaidan, and the ground shook, which was thrilling. It also stops with a crunching sound, and then the sun rises immediately. The air on the plateau is clear, and you can see sloping mist-like things floating below where there are clouds in the distance, which is also rain. The clouds move with the wind, and the rain moves with the clouds.

When you're lucky. Rainy clouds are always jogging a few kilometers ahead of the road, and I am always in a good mood along the way. Or they are always running behind a few kilometers away, so they will inevitably rush all the way nervously. The worst thing is that people are always in the rain and under the clouds. When people walk in the rain, when it stops, the rain will continue to fall above their heads. I had to run all the way. FT2DS. Usually, if you see a cloud in the sky that looks like a large, thin feather. You may encounter relatively heavy thunderstorms. If you see "white clouds floating in the blue sky", and each white cloud is round and round. When there is wind, large dark clouds will gather and it will rain. The most uncomfortable thing about riding in the rain is water getting into your shoes. Cold feet make it easy to catch a cold. Secondly, water got into the crotch, which seriously affected the pedaling action of the bicycle. Moreover, it looked like... very embarrassing. 3. I encountered many thunders on the thunder road. I was filled with sincere fear and awe. In fact, the probability of being struck by lightning is very small. But once it happens, it will be terrible. And from a traditional perspective, people who do bad things secretly are usually struck by lightning. So once struck by lightning, the whole family will be disgraced. If you really want to do something, then ride as hard as you can and pray sincerely. Or like me, risk being washed away by floods and hiding in culverts under the road. Although I know: the probability of being washed away by floods is much greater than being struck by lightning. I don't know if this is stupid or stupid. Maybe it's a lack of oxygen in the brain. Fortunately, I haven't heard that the brother who was riding in Tibet was struck by lightning. 4. Snow Summer is summer after all, and there are not many chances to encounter snow after all. Most of the time I see the snow on the snowy mountains from a distance. We only experienced snow at close range at Xiaotangula Pass. But I heard that on the second day after we passed the Tanggula Pass, a foot of snow fell there. (Unconfirmed) 5. Fog The western part of the country is arid and rarely encounters fog, but I encountered heavy fog twice when I passed the Rubber Mountain. I don’t know if it’s the local climate or a coincidence. 6. I originally thought floods were a specialty of the south, but unexpectedly I encountered them in Qinghai. It really happened before my eyes, and the scenery was spectacular. I thought the floods would rise from small to large, from low to high. What I saw was not. It was a sunny day (it had been raining for the past few days). When we left Delingha and were about to arrive at Huaitutala, the flood roared in and passed over the dry Gobi river bed. A few dozen meters in front of me swept across the road like a wall. The water head is more than one meter high. If you happen to be riding there, you will definitely wash away. Although the water head is large, the flow is generally continuous. The water level decreases rapidly, and the water flow on the road surface will soon be below the center axis. Because I was inexperienced, I wanted to pass quickly when passing by. As a result, the front wheel throws mud, contaminating the chain and transmission. Very bad. 7. Hail I encountered hail many times on the road, but fortunately it didn’t last long. The helmet made a pinging sound after being hit, and I was hit once next to the ear, which was quite painful. 8. Freezing rain may not be common anywhere, but we encountered it at the Kunlun Pass. Not big, just a little bit symbolic. 9. The sandy and dusty Qinghai-Tibet Highway is very long and the geological structure is unstable. In addition, a railway should be built. So I'm afraid this road will never be completed. Repair it and then break it, and repair it again if it breaks. So there are always dusty sections. And it's very fine dust. Sticking to chains, luggage, faces, handlebars, lenses, alveoli. Dust turns into mud when it encounters rain. The abnormal dust in that abnormal place met the abnormal rain and formed all kinds of weird and abnormal mud. Sometimes it's so sticky that I can't move the car. Sometimes it becomes slippery and the wheels spin. When it's cold in the morning, it's very hard and extremely sharp and can puncture a tire. 10. Save the most severe sun exposure for last. It was the first time I saw that the sun can cause blisters on the skin. It was really real. An accomplice's ear was hit with blisters that looked exactly like those caused by boiling water. It only lasted for one day! Most people will pay attention to sun protection. However, the tip of the nose, the back of the hands, thighs, ears, and neck are generally ignored. This was my first time seeing a solar cooker in action. A pot of cold water quickly boiled under the light of two reflectors. The solar cooker is produced in Jiangsu, but I have never seen this in Jiangsu. *************************************************** **********************************

"3. Equipment" 1 , car. For the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, most of them are flat roads. Therefore, it is more appropriate to use a 700C station wagon. You can choose thicker tires such as 38, 41, and 43, which are suitable for carrying luggage.

The main models currently available in China are: GIANT-ARK, ROCKMACHINE-CROSSWAY, GT-NOMAD, GT-TIMBERLINE (26"), etc. GIANT-ARK is relatively easy to buy. Here is an introduction: GIANT-ARK is GIANT (Kunshan) The company's product. The market price is ¥1698. It was launched at the end of June 2002. It is a specially designed long-distance travel bike. The detailed configuration is as follows: Frame: GIANT (trademark) - SUPERLIGHT (super light) - ALUXX (some kind of aluminum) headset. :VP (Taiwan) Front fork: RST-TR-PRO-HL (700C) (Taiwan) Stem: ZOOM aluminum, angle adjustable Crossbar: ZOOM aluminum, butterfly handlebar Cover: black sponge Seat bag: SUSTEK seat Tube: SUSTEK (spring) Seat tube clamp: GIANT Tire: Zhengxin 700×41C Inner tube: Zhengxin 700×35C Tire pad; Black rubber strip Rim: Single-layer aluminum rim Spokes: S stainless steel axle; JOY (Jiuyu) ( Taiwan) Brake: promax-TX103-V4 Brake lever: EF33 (JAPAN) Shifter; EF33 (JAPAN) Internal and external cables; Ominous pedal: VP plastic type (Taiwan) Crankset OTEK HS DK-15 bottom bracket; Oxiang chain: Z (KMC) Flywheel; Shimano MF-HG37 Rear derailleur: ACERA (Malaysia) Front derailleur; ACERA (JAPAN) Light: Grinding light (SANYO) After using it, I feel that its advantages are: (1) The name ARK is authentic. Carrying everything, riding the wind and waves. (2) The color is the same as dirt. (3) The ACERA series transmission is used. (4) The butterfly handlebar can be changed. The grip posture reduces fatigue. (5) Complete accessories include racks, fenders, chain boxes, and tripods. (6) The handle has a wide adjustable range. (7) The seat tube reduces fatigue and reduces the probability of "accidents". I mean this saddle is not necessarily suitable for you! . Moreover, the transmission cable and the rear brake cable are designed to be hidden. It is not easy for water and mud to enter. Various temporary luggage items can be bundled on the frame without affecting the normal operation of the rear brake and derailleur. ) The tires are suitable. They are 700X41C, with a circular cross-section and a sword-shaped pattern. They are relatively light on smooth roads and can handle occasional bad roads. I made some upgrades to the original car when I bought it: I used ALIVIO hubs. , DEORE derailleur, large chainring, hand shifter, SRAM7.0 flywheel and Z9000 chain, so the usage of the original corresponding parts is unknown. However, compared with the corresponding parts of other grades, I think it only needs to be used correctly and properly maintained. Original car parts will do the job. The disadvantages are: (1) The foot support (stand support) can only work when there is no load. Once the panniers are attached, the leg braces are completely useless. (2) The color matching of the drive train is not good. I replaced the DEORE’s large chainring and rear derailleur, etc., and the colors are much more coordinated. 2. Carrying bags. Many friends have to use backpacks, bags and other equipment due to cost considerations. Either way, you must be fully prepared for rain. The bundling should also be as strong as possible and easy to disassemble and assemble. It is recommended to choose a pannier bag specifically designed for bicycles. There are soft and hard fixing methods for bicycle-specific panniers. The hard fixation is firm and easy to disassemble and assemble. The disadvantage is that once damaged, it is difficult to repair. The soft type is exactly the opposite of the hard type. But either way, it's better than having a backpack strapped to a shelf. As for riding with a backpack... forget it. You will be laughed at by old people. I use VAUDE's three-piece pannier bag, which includes a yellow-green rain cover, which can indeed withstand heavy rain. Also comes with an Allen wrench. The hard fixed hooks can be adjusted to adapt to various shelves. This pannier bag has reflective patterns on the body and rain cover, which is more practical. ¥420 3. Auxiliary package. It is very convenient to install a relatively small auxiliary bag on the front of the car or in the middle of the tripod. You can put some snacks and cameras. There are also common items such as maps, glasses, and pencils. It's a pity that I only know it now. I didn’t understand it at the time. 4. Document package. Special certificate packages are available on the market. Hang it snugly around your neck.

Used to place address books (this is the most important thing), ID cards, border passes, student ID cards, and life-saving tolls. Bank cards or passbooks cannot be placed here. The ID card cannot be allowed to meet these things. It's a pity that I only know now. I didn’t understand it at the time. 5. Repair tools. Glue, patch, leather file and pump for tire repair are the most basic things. If the car uses a quick-release hub (that is, the axle). That tightening handle can be used for tire levers. Otherwise, suitable tire levers should also be prepared. I've only had 2 punctures. The two backup inner tubes I brought with me have always been important in my heart. Unless you are extremely unlucky, no one needs 2 backup inner tubes. So one is enough. As for the tires, it's hard to say. Toss a coin and decide. Some newer models generally use hexagon socket screws for various fasteners. So it’s best to bring a suitable Allen wrench. If it is an older bicycle, you may need an adjustable wrench or a flat-head screwdriver. This is heavier and larger, so you need to decide which one to choose based on your own vehicle condition and physical strength. Forget about other things such as chain breakers, brake cables, shifting cables, pedals, etc. Among them, the road on the Sichuan-Tibet line is dangerous and steep, and you may need to back up brake pads. There are also friends who actually break the spokes, but not many. Backup spokes may be used. But strong and elastic thin steel wires like spokes can have many other uses. It is recommended to bring 5 items. If someone is a germophobe like me, they also need a rag for wiping the car. There are many uses. In addition, nylon loop tape used for electrical installation is also useful, or ordinary tape will also work. There are also white nylon strips with a length of 100mm and a cross-section of 2mm square that are used by the railway department to hang tags. There is a small hole on one end. One set of head and tail can be locked. This is a very reliable strapping. Comprehensive list below: (0) Pump (required) (1) Glue (required) (2) Patch (required) (3) Leather file (required) (4) Inner tube (required) (5) Spokes (required) (6) Tape (required) (7) Allen wrench (required) (8) Bundling nylon strip (required) (9) Adjustable wrench (optional) (a) Slotted screwdriver (optional) (b) Chain breaker (optional) ) (d) Brake cable (optional) (d) Shift cable (optional) (e) Brake pad (optional) (f) Pedal (optional) (g) Rag (optional) (h) Tire (optional) 6. Clothing . There are a lot of articles written by previous people about clothing. I won't say any more. I just want to add a little bit about my experience riding a bicycle. (1) You must have clothes and pants that can protect you from rain. Inexpensive raincoats and rain pants also work well. (2) Clothes with zippers under the armpits are easy to use. (3) Clothing with cuffs that can be easily opened and closed is easy to use. (4) Zippers are easier to use than buttons. (5) Eye-catching colors of red and yellow can improve safety. (6) Shoes should not be too heavy. Ventilation and drainage are more important than waterproofing. (7) Windproof and rainproof foot covers are best combined with lightweight running shoes with a large amount of mesh. (8) Slippers are a must, the lighter the better. (9) A headscarf is a must. I bought a 2-foot sheet in Xining, which is enough for 3 people. It looks a lot like Arafat when he wears it. (a) Gloves are a must. When we set out, everyone had colorful gloves. Later, almost all of them used 2 yuan white thread gloves. (b) A towel is a must, it’s best to choose a gray one, why, :-) (c) A toothbrush is a must, let me think about it, how many times have I used it, 1...2...3.... ..... (d) Toothpaste is a must. In fact, toothpaste can also be used to wash hands and fruits. The effect is quite good. (e) Socks are a must. Cotton socks are comfortable but difficult to dry. I prefer thin nylon socks that dry easily. (f) Masks are a must. This thing saved the brothers’ little lungs, which were already on the verge of failure. It's enough to take him 3 pieces. It can also be used as gauze, bandage, towel, rag, toilet paper (?). (g)Sunglasses? Something is better than nothing, the color and shade don’t matter, polarized ones are more fun. I have always felt that the dark eyes of Asians are slightly more tolerant to bright light than the blue eyes. That’s why I say the shade of lens color doesn’t matter. It’s all personal conjecture with no scientific basis! (h) Helmet, so-so. Don't know how to evaluate it. When it's time to die, let's change the sentence to a vegetative state. When it's time to become a vegetative state, let's change the sentence to serious injury. When it should be considered a serious injury, it should be classified as a minor injury. When it should be a minor injury, change the sentence to shock. This is the kind of gear you take on a bike trip and hope it never works. It seems to have blocked several hailstorms. 7. Individuals should choose medicines according to their own circumstances.

My list is (1) Band-Aids (40 pcs) (also used as tape, 20 pcs is enough) (2) 2 rolls of gauze (diameter 15mm, length 50mm, luckily I didn’t use it) (3) Gold A bottle of Scherkahn (I have eaten 30 tablets, I don’t know if it has any effect) (4) 10 tablets of ginseng lozenges (a pack of 6 tablets is often forgotten and half of it is left) (5) Huoxiang Zhengqi Water (30 tablets) 10 bottles in a 10 ml bottle and a box of 10 to drink them all, this is a personal preference) 8. Food. Here we only talk about portable food as equipment. Keeping a box of lunch meat or 5 ham sausages in my bag makes me feel at ease. Or 2 large Western pancakes. Too bad the calories are on the low side. I like to drink Jianlibao along the way. I can buy it everywhere, and the price is acceptable. 9. Others (1)GPS seems to be of little use. There are very few forks along the way. Maps are rarely used. (2) Swiss Army Knife, this is a good thing, but I have never used it once. I am stupid. (3) Kettle. It is very practical to put a pull-top plastic kettle on the frame. There is also a large Jianlibao bottle tied to the frame of my car. Basically enough. If you also have an aluminum kettle, you can fill it with boiling water while eating in a restaurant. Too bad I didn't have one at the time. (4) Rope, I bought a 10-meter 7mm diameter twisted nylon rope in Xining for ¥2. Works great many times. If there is a professional rope, it may be lighter and better to use. Let everyone choose according to their own situation. (5) A piece of rainproof cloth or a thicker plastic sheet. It can be used to protect grass from decay, and it can be used to protect it from wind and rain. (6) Sleeping bag, just prepare a thin one, mainly used to place between the body and the hotel's fragrant slate quilt. (7) Camping equipment, there are enough hotels on the road, so camping is not necessary. If you like this kind of fun, it is recommended to use CAMPLAND-LD150, which is built by one person, is windproof, rainproof, small in size and light in weight, but unfortunately it is not spacious enough. Since you are camping, you need a moisture-proof mat. The sleeping bag also needs to be thicker.
