Variety: Ugly tangerine was developed in 1972 by the Kurume Branch Kuchinotsu Experimental Station of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Japan. It is bred by crossbreeding with Nakano No. 3 ponkan.
Due to its good flavor and excellent quality, it is the most expensive citrus variety in Japan in recent years.
