1. Submit a trademark registration application.

2. Review: Within 1 month after the trademark application is submitted, the official will conduct a formal review of the trademark application, and the substantive review of the trademark application will take about 10-12 months. The trademark application will be published in the Government Gazette of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Laos.

3. Laos’ trademark law does not provide for review and opposition of trademark applications.

4. The validity period of trademark registration is 10 years, starting from the date of trademark application. The validity period of trademark renewal is also 10 years, and the application for trademark renewal should be submitted within 6 months before the expiration of the trademark. If a trademark renewal application is not submitted within the trademark renewal period, the trademark registration will be revoked.

5. After a trademark is approved for registration, if the trademark registrant fails to use or allow others to use the registered trademark for five consecutive years without justifiable reasons, the trademark registration may become invalid.

6. Trademark transfer and licensing: The Lao Trademark Law stipulates that registered trademarks are allowed to be transferred and licensed to others. At the same time, the transfer, licensing and change of trademarks must be registered with the Lao Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
