Pingliang has a long history, a gathering of people, and a profound tourism culture. It is an important town at the eastern end of the northern line of the ancient Silk Road and "the first city west of Chang'an". There are 465 ancient cultural sites from various periods such as Qijia and Yangshao found in the territory, 64 key cultural relics protection units at or above the provincial level, and more than 30,000 cultural relics in the collection.
