In 1997, Leica was split into the following three companies:

1. Leica Microsystems, located in Germany, which produces microscopes, image acquisition equipment and image analysis software, is the holder of the Leica trademark and authorizes two other spin-off companies to use the Leica trademark

2. Leica Geosystems, located in Switzerland, produces Various geographical surveying equipment, including total stations

3, Leica Camera, located in Germany, produces cameras and camera lenses
