"Foolish Melon Seeds" entered the ranks of famous and premium products of township enterprises as early as April 1985. It has won the first prize at national food exhibitions many times, the Gold Cup Award for Excellent Products, and the National Best Product Best Enterprise Award, and was recognized as a famous trademark and "contract-abiding and trustworthy" enterprise in Wuhu City, Anhui Province. In particular, Nian Guangjiu was awarded the honorable title of "China's Reform Star" in 2003. Zhengzhou Foolish Melon Seed Factory alone was awarded the national patent protection enterprise unit. Nian Guangjiu was honored to be appointed as the president of China Melon Seeds Association in 2004. In 2008, Nian Guangjiu was named a man of the hour in China’s 30 years of opening up.

In 1965, Nian Guangjiu inherited his father's business and set up a fruit stall.
In 1966, Nian Guangjiu was imprisoned for more than 20 days for selling chestnuts.
In 1972, Nian Guangjiu learned the art of frying melon seeds from his neighbor, Master Xiong, and turned to melon seeds business.
In December 1979, the trademark "idiot melon seeds" was registered.
In 1980, Deng Xiaoping affirmed Anhui’s household responsibility system and mentioned “idiot” melon seeds for the first time.
In 1984, Deng Xiaoping mentioned "fools" for the second time, and the problem of self-employed workers was solved.
In May 1991, Nian Guangjiu was sentenced.
In 1992, Deng Xiaoping once again talked about "idiots" during his southern tour, and Nian Guangjiu was acquitted and released.
In 1994, Nian Guangjiu came out again and established Anhui Wuhu Foolish Melon Seed Technology Development Co., Ltd.
In August 2000, Nian Guangjiu sold the trademark "Stupid Melon Seeds" to his eldest son and second son.
In 2008, Nian Guangjiu still adopted the strategy of surrounding supermarkets with specialty stores to compete with his peers.
