Can a mobile phone be used to cast the screen on the TV?

Generally, to cast a mobile phone screen to a smart TV, the mobile phone and the smart TV are required to be in a second-layer LAN. For example, the mobile phone and the smart TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network at home at the same time, or the TV can be Connect to a wired network and your phone to a Wi-Fi network, as long as the wired network is connected to the same wireless router.

Here is a brief introduction to several major screen projection protocols:

AirPlay

AirPlay is Apple’s wireless display standard. It allows you to cast videos from iPhone, iPad or Mac to Apple TV or Android TV box (the TV box needs to install the screen casting software that supports AirPlay, such as LeBo Screen Casting). Using AirPlay, you can start a video on your iPhone and "push" it to your TV, or play a game on your iPad and mirror it on your TV.

iPhone Mirroring

Apple's AirPlay standard is flexible enough to work in two different ways. You can use mirroring to mirror the entire device screen to the TV (including status bar, menu, etc.). Smarter streaming modes are also available. For example, you can play a video in an app on your iPhone and then use the playback controls on your iPhone to control the video on your TV. Even when fiddling with the playback controls on your iPhone screen, they don't appear on your TV, allowing you to stream just what you want to see on the display, rather than duplicating the entire phone screen (including status bar, menus, etc. ).

The main limitation of AirPlay is that it only works on Apple devices. If you own a Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, you will be satisfied with this, but many TV boxes now support the AirPlay protocol, so you can easily cast your screen to a smart TV with an Apple phone or tablet.

Miracast

Miracast is the Wi-Fi screen casting industry standard developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which is essentially a response to Apple AirPlay. Miracast support is built into Android 4.2+ and Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Allows Android smartphones, Windows tablets and laptops, and other devices to wirelessly stream to Miracast-compatible receivers such as smart TVs, tablets, and more. Currently, many TV boxes support Miracast protocol, such as Xiaomi box, Honor box, etc. Xiaomi mobile phones and Huawei mobile phones also support Miracast protocol. Screen casting can be achieved with Xiaomi box and Honor box.

Miracast has both disadvantages and advantages compared to AirPlay. The advantages are:

It is built into Android and Windows and does not require it to be an Apple terminal device.

Miracast can work well without a wireless router, which means that the mobile phone can be directly connected to the TV’s Wi-Fi network card through Wi-Fi for screencasting (Wi-Fi Direct technology ), which is more convenient when there is no wireless router.

The disadvantage is:

Only supports screen mirroring mode, but does not support streaming mode. When you cast the screen, the entire screen of your phone (including the status bar, etc.) will be copied to the TV, and the screen of your phone must always be in playback and display mode. Apple's AirPlay allows you to browse the web on your phone and play videos on your phone through your TV.

Miracast is an industry standard after all, and implementations vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and screencasting between different devices may cause poor experience.

Another problem is that the standard does not require devices to be trademarked with the "Miracast" brand. The manufacturer has called its Miracast implementation something else. For example, LG calls its Miracast support "SmartShare," Samsung calls it "AllShare Cast," Sony calls it "Screen Mirroring," and Panasonic calls it "Display Mirroring."
