Gu Yangfeng was born in Nanzheng County, Shaanxi Province in 1947. Influenced by his parents, he loved national music since he was a child. He stood on the stage and played the erhu when he was 8 years old. When he was 15 years old, he made his own erhu with bamboo and wood. The first was an erhu, and later his father bought a violin. When he graduated from high school, he was good at playing, singing, storytelling, photography, and calligraphy.
After graduating from high school, he returned to his hometown and became a farmer. Because he liked to ponder and was good at learning many things, after getting married in 1975, he often traveled around the country with a camera in hand, doing side jobs for the collective. After the reform and opening up, he also engaged in professional photography.
Gu Yangfeng raises orchids and enjoys orchid appreciation. In his early years, he discovered that there were many orchids on the hillside of Xiaonanhai, so he selected seedlings from the hillside and planted them in the courtyard for observation and cultivation. In 1993, he discovered that three of them were extremely special. The center of the flower looked like a smiling Maitreya Buddha statue. Sitting on the lotus platform with a red base, with a lifelike expression, a new orchid variety "Chinese Folan, Nanhai Guanyin" was successfully cultivated. In the autumn of 1984, Gu Yangfeng founded a chemical factory. After more than 300 days and nights of repeated tests, he successfully extracted a variety of non-ferrous metal and non-metal mineral processing agents from grease sediments, and passed national identification.
In 1990, after Gu Yangfeng completed a mineral processing project for a mining company, the factory representative drove him up the mountain in a jeep to take pictures of the scenery. By chance, Gu Yangfeng discovered some black stones in the ravine. "These stones are so strange." , it is dense and hard, smooth and delicate. It is fibrous and has a matt surface. He picked up a few pieces and took them back to the laboratory to conduct comprehensive research on their molecular structure and performance characteristics, and then carved them into exquisite crafts.
