Galla chinensis is a kind of cyst-shaped aggregate gall, which is obtained by parasitizing the female of the HOMOPTERA Aphidae on the tender leaves or petioles of Rhus sumac and other plants of the same genus, stabbing and drying.
It is found in all provinces and regions except Northeast China, Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang, and it is born in open forests or shrubs on sunny slopes, valleys and streams at an altitude of 17-2,7 meters.
The growth of gallnut must meet three conditions: gall aphid, summer host tree and winter host moss. Like warm and humid climate, but also can withstand certain cold and drought. The requirements for soil are not strict, and it can grow on acidic, neutral or limestone alkaline soil, and it is barren-resistant and water-resistant. The root system is developed and has strong sprouting ability.
