How to play the drum
1. How to play the snare drum
The playing posture of the snare drum is also the playing posture of the drum set. When playing drums, you have to play in a sitting position because your feet need to step on the bass drum and the hairpin at the same time. When playing, you should maintain a straight posture and relax your chest, shoulders, upper arms and other upper body limbs naturally. When playing, bend your arms upward naturally and place them on the drum surface. Hold the mallet with both hands. The second joint of the thumb and the second and third joints of the index finger of your right hand hold the handle of the drumstick. The third joint of the thumb and index finger are naturally together. The palms of the middle finger, ring finger and little finger Bend, keeping a certain gap with the mallet handle to control the drumstick. With the palm of your left hand facing inward, hold the handle of the drumstick at the tiger's mouth of your thumb and index finger, and support the bottom of the drumstick with the third joint of your ring finger. The other fingers point toward the palm and naturally bend into a ball-holding shape.
To master the correct posture of holding the mallet, you must also have the correct method of playing. During training, you must remember the word "percussion", which means to play. After the drumstick hits the drum head, you must immediately resume the preparatory movements for drumming. The drumming action should be completed in an instant, and should be elastic and fully vibrating. It should be played bright, concentrated, solid and powerful, and produce a full sound effect. Beginners should also pay attention to the striking position when practicing playing. They should hit three to five centimeters from the center point of the snare drum. In addition, there are also side-hitting methods, damper-side-hitting methods, alternate hitting methods, rolling playing, etc. When practicing, you can practice with one hand first, then practice with both hands, or you can practice with both hands alternately.
2. Bass drum playing method
The bass drum is played with the right foot. Under normal circumstances, the heel is stepped on the back end of the pedal, with the ankle joint as the axis, and the sole of the forefoot is used. The pedal is pressed to cause the drumstick to hit the drum surface. When tapping, the muscles of the thighs, calves, and feet should be relaxed accordingly, and the hammer head should return immediately after hitting the drum surface, forming a cyclic tapping action. When playing extremely powerful, you can hang your feet and tap the pedal with your toes so that the entire weight of your right leg falls on one point, thereby strengthening the intensity of the tap and achieving the desired effect.
3. How to play the hairpin with your left foot? The front foot hits the pedal. When the front foot hits the pedal, it does not need to return immediately but needs to control the sustain, resulting in a closed sound effect. This is also different from the right-foot bass drum.
4. Tom drum playing method
