Suzhou ancient building "Mingshantang" has couplet clouds;
"It is better to accumulate gold and jade than to accumulate books and teach children; The square is spacious and more generous to people.
This wonderful couplet, understanding Xiao Chang, talks about attaching importance to culture and education, and the second part talks about the truth of being a man, which is quite consistent with the name of "Mingshantang".
Mingshantang, located in Shangwan Village, Yangwan, Dongshan, is a magnificent residential building with extremely high architectural art, which was built in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. The main building is in the east, with a living room, a hall, a main building, left and right facilities, a wing and so on. There are wall doors, wing rooms, living rooms, Buddha buildings and gardens in the west. Mingshantang was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province on March 1982.
During the Republic of China, the famous mountain hall was owned by the Zhang family. 10 (192 1), Zhu Runsheng, a native of Yangwan, bought a famous mountain hall and set up a private Jiantang primary school. Later, he opened branch schools in Chawan and Wangshe, and implemented compulsory education for ordinary children. Tuition and book fees were free. Jiantang Primary School was named after Zhu Runsheng's father Zhu Jiantang, Zhu Jiantang (1869- 19 18), a famous businessman in Dongshan in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. Its stock collection has long been established as Poplin Village, and registered the trademarks of "Single Deer" and "Double Deer". In addition, Zhu also participated in the export of silk, tea, fur, medicinal materials, oils and groceries, and was elected as the president of Shanghai Export Association. In the 30th year of Guangxu (1904), in order to improve the traffic in Sushan, Yutai Ferry was founded and sailed to Yangwan, Dongshan and Suzhou, which was the beginning of the existence of ships in Dongshan. He also advocated the cemetery system and tried to buy the burial place of the Zhu family as a cemetery. He used to be the chairman of Tang Tang Sanshan and the director of the villagers' association. His son Zhu Runsheng (1902- 1979) is doing business in Shanghai. According to his father's order, he founded Jiantang Primary School in Mingshantang and became the chairman of the school board. During the Anti-Japanese War, Diligence and Dahua Middle School were founded in Laoximen, Shanghai. He has served as the editorial director of Molly Shanghai newspaper. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he supported the establishment of "Dongdongting Dongshan Alumni Association" and "Mo Lifeng" monthly. During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Japanese antique dealers tried to buy a famous temple with 2000 silver dollars, but Zhu Yan refused. After liberation, Zhu Runsheng was elected as a member of Shanghai CPPCC and Shanghai Municipal Committee of China Democratic National Construction Association. The couplets on the two pillars of Mingshantang represent the history of Zhu and his son respecting teachers and teaching. The first couplet is "It is better to accumulate gold and jade than to accumulate books to teach children", and the second couplet is "Be lenient with others", which has profound implications.
