During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795 AD), Yuejing Village, Sanmen Silin Township, began to breed blue crabs.
In the 27th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1901), the Xiantou Zhafen, facing the rising sand and mud along the coast, the council committee ordered each household to recognize the land and allow them to do business.
In the 35th year of the Republic of China (Park 1946), Maotou Village once established a central government breeding office to engage in razor clam and mud crab breeding.
In 1949, tidal flat fishing gradually developed, and coastal fishermen adopted the following methods: releasing crabs to carry crabs and placing crab holes to increase the production of blue crabs.
In the 1950s, empty wine jar culture and stone cabin culture were adopted successively, that is, blue crabs were cultured in wine jars and dug holes on the tidal flats
and then Cover with a stone slab for the green crabs to shed their shells.
In the early 1980s, pond culture was carried out.
In 1997, Sanmen County built nearly 100 kilometers of standard seawall dams, and the scale of blue crab farming expanded rapidly.
In 1998, Taotou Village, Liu'ao Town, Sanmen County took the lead in reorganizing the industrial structure and implementing planting instead of farming. The benefits were 5-8 times higher than those planted on dry land.
The whole county set off a revolution. The blue crab farming boom started.
In 1998, Sanmen Blue Crab won the Silver Award at the Zhejiang Agricultural Exposition (the highest award for Tonglai products).
In 2000, Liu'ao Town and Haiyou Town in Sanmen County were named "Hometown of Zhejiang Blue Crabs" by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government.
In February 2001, the Sanmen County Fisheries Technology Promotion Station registered the "Sanmenwan" brand Scylla serrata.
In June 2001, the Sanmen County Party Committee and County Government held the "Sanmen Blue Crab Promotion Conference" in Hangzhou for the first time.

In 2003, six major blue crab producing areas (15,000 acres) were certified as pollution-free agricultural product producing areas in Zhejiang Province.
In February 2003, the Sanmen County Blue Crab Management Office was established.
