During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (1736-1795 AD), Yuejing Village, Sanmen Silin Township, began to breed blue crabs.

In the 27th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (AD 1901), the Xiantou Zhafen, facing the rising sand and mud along the coast, the council committee ordered each household to recognize the land and allow them to do business.

In the 35th year of the Republic of China (Park 1946), Maotou Village once established a central government breeding office to engage in razor clam and mud crab breeding.

In 1949, tidal flat fishing gradually developed, and coastal fishermen adopted the following methods: releasing crabs to carry crabs and placing crab holes to increase the production of blue crabs.

In the 1950s, empty wine jar culture and stone cabin culture were adopted successively, that is, blue crabs were cultured in wine jars and dug holes on the tidal flats

and then Cover with a stone slab for the green crabs to shed their shells.

In the early 1980s, pond culture was carried out.

In 1997, Sanmen County built nearly 100 kilometers of standard seawall dams, and the scale of blue crab farming expanded rapidly.

In 1998, Taotou Village, Liu'ao Town, Sanmen County took the lead in reorganizing the industrial structure and implementing planting instead of farming. The benefits were 5-8 times higher than those planted on dry land.

The whole county set off a revolution. The blue crab farming boom started.

In 1998, Sanmen Blue Crab won the Silver Award at the Zhejiang Agricultural Exposition (the highest award for Tonglai products).

In 2000, Liu'ao Town and Haiyou Town in Sanmen County were named "Hometown of Zhejiang Blue Crabs" by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government.

In February 2001, the Sanmen County Fisheries Technology Promotion Station registered the "Sanmenwan" brand Scylla serrata.

In June 2001, the Sanmen County Party Committee and County Government held the "Sanmen Blue Crab Promotion Conference" in Hangzhou for the first time.

In October 2001, the country’s first local blue crab quality standard was formulated.

In November 2001, the "Sanmenwan" brand Scylla serrata won the gold medal at the Zhejiang Fisheries Expo and the Zhejiang Agricultural Expo.

In August 2002, the first professional green crab market in the country was built in Sanmen.

In September 2002, the first Sanmen Chinese Blue Crab Festival was held.

In September 2002, Sanmen County was awarded the title of "Hometown of Chinese Blue Crabs" by the China Aquatic Products Processing and Distribution Association.

In September 2002, Sanmen Blue Crab was rated as "Zhejiang Famous Brand Product".

In October 2002, the Sanmen Blue Crab Banquet won the title of China’s Famous Banquet at the West Lake Expo.

In 2003, six major blue crab producing areas (15,000 acres) were certified as pollution-free agricultural product producing areas in Zhejiang Province.

In February 2003, the Sanmen County Blue Crab Management Office was established.

In November 2003, it won the gold medal at the 2003 Zhejiang Agricultural Expo.

In April 2004, the country’s first professional blue crab cooperative was established in Sanmen.

In April 2004, Sanmen Blue Crab Research Institute was established.

In September 2004, the second Sanmen Chinese Blue Crab Festival was held.

In November 2004, the "Sanmenwan" brand Scylla serrata was approved by the State Administration of Epidemic Prevention and Quarantine to obtain geographical indication registration of origin.

In April 2005, the Sanmen Blue Crab Industry Association was established.

In October 2005, Sanmen Blue Crab won the Best Selling Product Award at the 3rd International Agricultural Fair.

In December 2005, "Qihai Brand" Sanmen Blue Crabs obtained the national green food certification.

In December 2005, Sanmen Blue Crab won the title of China’s Famous Brand.

In 2005, the blue crab breeding area in Sanmen reached 95,000 acres, with an annual output of more than 10,000 tons, accounting for one-third of the province and one-ninth of the country

In July 2006, Sanmen Blue Crab Disease Prevention and Control Center was established.

In August 2006, "Qihai Brand" Sanmen Blue Crab was rated as one of the top ten specialty agricultural products brands in Zhejiang Province.

In September 2006, "Qihai Brand" Sanmen Blue Crabs obtained national organic product certification.

In September 2006, Sanmen Blue Crab was approved by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Prevention and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China for geographical indication product protection of origin.

In September 2006, the Sanmen Blue Crab Culture Exhibition Hall was completed.

The third Sanmen Chinese Blue Crab Festival was held in September 2006.

In December 2006, the Sanmen Blue Crab geographical indication certification trademark was approved for registration by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

In October 2007, Sanmen blue crab was rated as China's famous brand agricultural product by the Ministry of Agriculture.
