Note 24 of Volume 4 of "Surangama Sutra"
Original text:
"Ananda, the most righteous person: If you want to donate your body to become a sravaka, When cultivating the Bodhisattva vehicle and entering into the knowledge of the Buddha, one should examine the causes and effects of the mind and awakening. Are they the same or different? Ananda, if the mind of birth and death is the basis of cultivation in the cause, the Buddha's vehicle will not arise or cease. , there is no place for it. For this reason, you should illuminate all the things that can be done in the world, and all the things that can be done will disappear. Ananda, if you look at the things that can be done in the world, who will not hear the decay of the void? . Why? The void cannot be created, because it is always non-destructive. In your body, the solid phase is the earth, the moist one is the fire, and the turbulence is the wind. The wonderfully enlightened mind consists of seeing, hearing, awareness, and observing, from beginning to end.
Translation:
"Ananda, the first decisive meaning is: If you want to give up the Shravaka Hinayana Dharma and practice the Mahayana Bodhisattva Dharma and realize the knowledge and view of the Buddha, you should examine whether the mind generated by the cause ground is the same as the enlightenment realized by the fruit ground? Or are they different? Ananda, if you use the mind of birth and death as the root cause of cultivation in the cause ground, and seek to achieve the non-birth and non-destruction of Buddhahood, it is impossible. Because of this principle, you should use wisdom to observe and observe all phenomena in the world. All things that can be created will change and perish. Ananda, if you look at the dharma that can be created in the world, which one is incorruptible? However, I have never heard that the void will become bad. Why? Because void cannot be changed, it will never become bad from beginning to end. However, in your body, the solid element belongs to the earth element, the moist element belongs to the water element, the warm and touching element belongs to the fire element, and the shaking element belongs to the wind element. From this, the four major entanglements form the body, and there are six sense organs, which separate your azure and perfect mind of wonderful enlightenment. The non-birth and death and birth and death combine to form the Alaya consciousness. The essence of consciousness is bright and reflected on the six door heads , in the eyes it is seeing, in the ears it is hearing, in the nose, tongue and body it is felt, in the mind it is observation; in this way, from the beginning of sharpness to the end of the six unions, the mind and form combine to form the body of the five yin and turbidity, The five levels of turbidity form the turbid phase.
