1. Credit card overdraft is a short-term overdraft within the specified limit given by the credit card issuer to the cardholder when making purchases with the card. For credit cards, allowing "spend first, repay later" and overdraft are important features. For debit credit cards, "deposit first, then spend". However, on the premise that it is determined to be a bona fide overdraft and repayment is guaranteed, cardholders are also allowed to overdraft an appropriate amount within a short period of time when they are in urgent need of funds. Overdraft interest is generally much higher than that of bank loans in the same period, and card issuers have a complete set of measures to prevent and pursue overdraft risk losses.
2. A bona fide overdraft must meet the following two basic conditions at the same time:
(1) Within the limit stipulated in the "Credit Card Articles" of the card-issuing bank or authorized by the card-issuing bank. According to the relevant provisions of the "Credit Card Articles" of major commercial banks in my country, overdraft limits are generally set at 10,000 yuan, 5,000 yuan, and 1,000 yuan according to different types of credit cards. The overdraft limit of credit cards issued by my country's commercial banks is much lower than that of Western developed countries, and the consumer credit function of credit cards is not strong. This is related to the underdevelopment of my country's personal credit system and is also a last resort for commercial banks to avoid the risk of malicious overdrafts.
(2) Return the principal and interest within the specified time. All commercial banks in my country set the period for repaying principal and interest as one month. A bona fide overdraft on a credit card essentially means that the cardholder borrows money from the card-issuing bank, and the card-issuing bank provides credit services to the cardholder. This is a legal act and does not constitute a crime.
