Judge whether the baby has loose bowels.
Neonatal diarrhea refers to the increase in the number of baby stools, thin stools and plenty of water, like egg soup or green loose stools; In severe cases, there is more water and less feces. Different feeding methods have different criteria for judging diarrhea.
Breast-fed newborns can defecate as many as 7-8 times a day, and their appearance is thick and mushy, sometimes slightly green. If the baby is in good spirits, eats well and gains normal weight, it is normal. This phenomenon is called "baby's physiological diarrhea" in medicine, because the baby is just born, the gastrointestinal function is not very good, and the nutrition of the mother's milk is too high to be absorbed, so it is diarrhea. As long as the baby is in good condition, the mother can rest assured. Although this kind of baby has loose bowels, the nutrition absorbed by the body is still very good, even exceeding the average baby.
But there are also babies who have loose bowels because their mothers eat inappropriate food, such as food that is too cold, too greasy or unclean. If mom has a similar situation, she should improve it in time.
For the baby with the above-mentioned physiological diarrhea, no treatment and weaning are needed. Generally, this phenomenon will be alleviated or disappeared from a few months to half a year after birth, that is, when the baby can eat complementary food. During this period, we should pay attention to strengthening daily nursing. Because of frequent defecation, pregnant women should change diapers and clean their buttocks in time, and apply disinfectant ointment to protect local skin, so as not to cause redness and swelling of buttocks or even local infection.
However, if there is a lot of water in the baby's stool, and the stool and water are separated 10 times or more, it smells bad and the baby's spirit is not good; If the baby is artificially fed, such as defecating more than 5 times a day, or there is mucus such as snot in the stool, or it contains a lot of water, it is necessary to consider that the newborn has diarrhea and go to the hospital to test the stool in time.
If the baby is in a good mental state, parents can only collect the baby's proper amount of stool and go to the hospital for testing without taking the baby with them. If the doctor needs to see the baby, it's not too late to take care of it.
Prevention of neonatal diarrhea
Prevention of neonatal diarrhea is the most important. Breast milk is sterile, and there are antibodies against various germs in breast milk (especially in colostrum, there are many antibodies), which have certain resistance to intestinal infection, and breast-fed babies are not prone to diarrhea. If there is no breastfeeding condition, the feeding method should be correct when artificial feeding is carried out, and the milk utensils should be clean and hygienic. This is the fundamental measure to prevent neonatal diarrhea.
Nursing and treatment of neonatal diarrhea
During diarrhea, the food eaten by the baby can not only nourish the body, but also increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, it is best for the baby to fast for a short time during acute diarrhea, so that the gastrointestinal tract can get proper rest, which is conducive to the recovery of the disease. But the fasting time should not be too long, generally not more than 6 ~ 8 hours.
Once the artificially fed baby has diarrhea, if it is not serious, it may be caused by improper feeding. The milk quantity should be adjusted in time, and the milk quantity should be reduced or diluted to the original 1/2~2/3 within 1~2 days, but it should not be diluted for a long time to avoid malnutrition. In addition, oral rehydration can be given to the baby appropriately, generally using the oral rehydration formula recommended by the World Health Organization, which is available in hospitals or pharmacies.
If diarrhea is accompanied by high fever and lethargy, even cold hands and feet, hairy skin, deep breathing, cherry red lips, cyanosis around the nose and mouth, dry mouth, sunken eyes and so on. Need to be sent to the hospital for infusion.
