The School of Information Science and Technology and the Research Institute of Information Science and Technology of Hainan University were established in December 1998.

The college has established four departments, including the Department of Electronic Information Engineering, Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Applied Mathematics, and Department of Communication Engineering, and a public computer education center.
