The Institute of Human and Animal Diseases of Jilin University is my country's first specialized institution engaged in research on human and animal diseases. It was established in January 2006. Insect diseases are the main research direction.

The Institute of Human and Animal Disease Epidemiology has the country’s first batch of doctoral programs in the epidemiology of human and animal disease, a key laboratory of the Ministry of Education, a research center for human and animal disease, and an innovation team of the Ministry of Education.

It is an important part of the national key discipline of preventive veterinary medicine.

With the outbreak and epidemic of human-animal diseases such as SARS and highly pathogenic avian influenza, the world's attention has focused on human-animal diseases.

In response to the severe situation of raging human-animal diseases, Jilin University fully integrated the resources of the Department of Agriculture, the Ministry of Medicine and other related disciplines to promptly establish the first domestic and foreign research institute on human-animal diseases, so as to make human-animal diseases more accessible.

Disease research realizes the organic integration of veterinary medicine and medicine.

The Department of Agriculture of Jilin University has a good foundation in related disciplines and scientific research advantages. Its predecessor was the former PLA Military Supplies University and has a history of more than 100 years of veterinary education and research.

Among them, the discipline of preventive veterinary medicine is a national key discipline. It has long been responsible for the prevention and treatment of important animal diseases, the molecular biology of the pathogens of important animal diseases, and the research on human and animal diseases, especially in avian influenza, SARS, foot-and-mouth disease, rabies, glanders, and Trichinella.

Remarkable results have been achieved in research on diseases of human and animal diseases such as parasitic diseases.

It has successively undertaken more than 300 key projects of the “863”, “973”, the 11th Five-Year Plan for major infectious diseases, major national military projects, National Natural Science Foundation, national, military and provincial and ministerial levels, and won 800 various teaching and research achievement awards.
