Established on April 27th, 1993, China Environmental Protection Foundation is the first national Public Offering of Fund registered by the Ministry of Civil Affairs in China to engage in environmental protection public welfare undertakings. 1In June 1992, at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Professor Qu, the first director of the State Environmental Protection Agency, won the United Nations Environment Award. He donated all $654.38 million, and established the China Environmental Protection Foundation on this basis. Qu and Fu successively served as directors of the Council.

Wan Li, former chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), Huang Hua, former deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the State Council, Cheng Siwei and Jiang Zhenghua, former vice-chairmen of the National People's Congress, successively served as honorary chairmen. The Council is composed of representatives from government, organizations, universities, culture, enterprises and other fields who are enthusiastic about environmental protection and public welfare, and is the decision-making body of the Foundation.

Since its establishment, China Environmental Protection Foundation has strictly implemented the Regulations on Foundation Management promulgated by the State Council, and established a standardized fund raising, management and use system. With the aim of "taking it from the people, using it for the people, protecting the environment and benefiting mankind", we have raised funds extensively and launched projects such as "China Environmental Award", "Environmental Carnival", "Ecological Poverty Alleviation", "Green Logistics" and "Safe Drinking Water Assistance Project" in the fields of environmental pollution prevention, ecological environment improvement, biodiversity protection and water resources protection. In 2005, it was granted "special consultative status" by the United Nations Economic and Social Council;
