As the founder of Nanyi Company, the first Chinese multinational group in Southeast Asia, he is known as the "king of rubber pears" and one of the top ten Chinese businessmen in the world. As the founder of the Lee Foundation, a world-famous charity, he was appointed Datuk by the Sultans of Kelantan and Johor, Malaysia, and was awarded the title of "PMN" by the Supreme Head of State of Malaysia.

Li Guang was one of the top ten Chinese businessmen in the world before his death. The rubber kingdom he founded has a decisive influence on the world rubber industry. He is an outstanding Chinese entrepreneur, educator and philanthropist in Singapore, Malaysia and even Southeast Asia. In his youth, he studied in Nanjing Jinan School (now the predecessor of Jinan University), Tsinghua School and Tangshan Jiaotong University (now Southwest Jiaotong University). After his successful career, he was awarded a doctorate in law by the University of Malaysia. 1962, the Singapore government hired him as the first president of the University of Singapore.
