One case every day to see how they bloom in life. Pay attention to the headlines and enjoy the good times together.
Ten years ago, Wanli didn’t wait for a good design institute.
Wanli went to the countryside to be a volunteer.
She never thought about carrying bags. Even though the rice is squealing,
one day I can learn to knead the soil, move bricks, and build a house with the villagers.
Not to mention, these mud houses, which look far from beautiful, actually defeated projects from ten countries,
won the United Nations Awards, Hong Kong's Green Building Awards, International Earth Architecture Awards, etc.
Before I became an architect, if I saw a house like this winning an award, I might have thought that there must be something shady!
But now she feels that the teacher is right,
"As for a house in the countryside,
it would be nice to plant vegetables and trees in front of and behind the house. ,
Do you want to make a Japanese garden with dry landscape for them? ”
This is Ma’anqiao Village, an inconspicuous village near Panzhihua, Sichuan.
In 2008, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in Panzhihua, and 90% of the mud houses in the village collapsed.
Ma'anqiao, which was already poor,
became one of the most severely affected poor villages at that time.
The villagers were left homeless and could only huddle in temporary tents to wait for post-disaster reconstruction.
It was at this time that Wanli, as a designer involved in post-disaster reconstruction, formed a fate with Ma'anqiao Village. The first thing to deal with in post-disaster reconstruction is undoubtedly the villagers' housing problem.
In the first few days before going there, Wanli did nothing.
He just walked around the village to understand the situation.
She often saw people dazing in front of the muddy ruins.
Maybe they were in shock.
They saved 20,000 yuan from the government subsidy.
Even if you know it is not enough, you can still be willing to bite the bullet.
Even if you get a loan, you still have to build a solid brick house.
Wan Li felt confused when she heard this.
Buying materials and hiring people to do the work, coupled with the skyrocketing prices after the disaster,
It will cost at least 80,000 to 100,000.
This will undoubtedly cost the affected villagers It's adding insult to injury.
What’s more, the only bridge in the village has also been washed away, and transportation is also a big problem.
Ma'anqiao Village in the earthquake zone has always retained the most traditional rammed earth buildings.
There must be a reason why it can continue for hundreds of years to this day, Wanli thought.
With this speculation in mind, they conducted research in the village.
When visiting some old houses that had not collapsed,
found that some were built earlier. Rammed earth houses,
have slightly different material ratios,
will put some stones and sand inside,
add some wooden beams and columns. The frame is used to support the wall.
In this way, it plays a very effective anti-seismic role.
But in recent years, most of the young people in the village have gone out to work.
No one is willing to learn the rammed earth technology of the older generation.
Building houses is also difficult. As they become less and less careful,
the earthquake resistance of earthen houses is no longer guaranteed.
So in fact, there is no need to spend money and effort to build a brick house.
Just adjust the proportions and add scientific methods on the basis of the original earth house.
Innovation can create a safe and comfortable home for villagers.
When it comes to building earthen houses, no one is better than the villagers here.
Wanli only needs to draw drawings and explain the material ratio and principles.
The villagers have the final say on what their homes should be like.
The haze of the earthquake has passed,
The villagers of Ma'anqiao rolled up their sleeves and got to work!
There is no need to occupy new land for the reconstruction of rammed earth houses.
They can be built wherever they fell.
All collapsed walls can also be recycled,
Mixed with natural materials such as stone, wood, sand, etc.
In addition, some wooden beams and columns can be added inside the wall, < /p>
Turn into a new earth house that is environmentally friendly and earthquake-resistant.
After mastering the principles of earthquake resistance,
the villagers constructed according to their own needs.
So the 33 houses after completion
also have different looks.
Compared to being planned as a uniform model house,
The villagers prefer this home that looks unchanged.
The village is still the same village, and the neighbors are still the same neighbors.
The fields are around, and the cowsheds, pig pens, chicken coops, granaries, and courtyards are all the same.
Not much, and no huge loan debts.
Because the new mud houses use a lot of recycled materials from ruins,
so the reconstruction cost is very cheap, the most is more than 200 yuan/square meter, and the cheapest one is only 60 yuan per square meter.
The villagers were very happy.
In order to restore the vitality of this small disaster-stricken village,
Wanli thought about building an activity center for the villagers.
Because most of the local villagers are Dai and Yi,
On festival days, they like the whole village to dance in a big circle around the city,
so the activity center It is also designed in an arc shape much like a Fujian earth building.
For this project, Wanli invited villagers to come and participate together.
Firstly, it wanted to understand their preferences.
Secondly, it could also allow them to The villagers earn a little money, and after learning the skills, they may be able to make a living in the future.
And Wanli simply moved into the village,
eating, sleeping, and building houses together with the villagers.
Construction materials are all locally sourced.
Stones picked up from the river bed,
Second-hand wood collected from villagers’ homes.
Due to inconvenient transportation,
the machine cannot come in.
Therefore, most of the construction still relies on manpower.
There was no mixer at the beginning.
The villagers had to use hoes to mix.
Sometimes when encountering unexpected situations,
the villagers use their folk wisdom
to find practical solutions.
It also made Wan Li feel that instead of helping them,
it was more like being taught an important lesson by the villagers.
Teach her that the best building is one that does not break away from the land beneath its feet.
In addition to Wanli and the villagers,
there are also
college student volunteers from the Mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong participating in the construction.
For example, the paving in the center,
was filled in piece by piece.
Four months later, this activity center where everyone worked together was completed.
The lively villagers do not like to stay at home.
They gather at the activity center whenever they have free time.
The children sang and danced,
The adults chatted.
Drink tea under the moonlight, count the stars,
Heal the wounds of disaster in happiness.
Every time she saw the smiles of the children in the village,
Wan Li felt that it was worth getting a few more tans.
Wanli, who was running around the village for the project,
found that she seemed to have become a villager in Ma'anqiao,
There were more than thirty households in the village I have been to every house and know all the people.
Even the gossip among relatives, she knows better than anyone else.
Use your camera to record every change in the village,
the houses here, the stories,
and the people you meet.
Then try to use their perspective and situation to understand architecture and life.
Many years later, Wanli took her students back to Ma'anqiao Village.
The smoke rose from the roof of the rammed earth house, and the rice in front of the house grew bright green and tall.
Such tranquility and tranquility made Wanli feel in a trance at a certain moment,
The wounds of the earthquake were as if they had never appeared before.
They can still sit on the ground under the big tree,
and walk quickly on the field ridge,
using the most familiar look in this village,
Go live.
