The National Natural Science Foundation of China is the institution (deputy ministerial level) that manages the National Natural Science Foundation. According to the principles, policies and plans of national science and technology development, the National Natural Science Foundation will be effectively used to support basic research, adhere to free exploration, play a guiding role, discover and cultivate scientific and technological talents, and promote scientific and technological progress and coordinated economic and social development.

● Formulate and implement funding plans to support basic research and cultivate scientific and technological talents, accept project applications, organize expert review, manage funded projects, promote the effective allocation of scientific research resources, and create a favorable environment conducive to innovation;

● Cooperate with the state administrative department of science and technology to formulate the principles, policies and plans for the development of national basic research, and provide advice on major issues concerning the development of national science and technology;

● Accept the entrustment of the State Council and relevant departments to carry out relevant work and cooperate with relevant institutions to carry out funding activities;

● Establish contacts with government science and technology management departments, funding institutions and academic organizations in other countries or regions, and carry out international cooperation;

● Support the work of other domestic science funds;

● Undertake other tasks assigned by the State Council.
