Chow Yun-fat, born on May 18, 1955 in Lamma Island, Hong Kong. After receiving a junior high school education, he entered social work after dropping out of school and worked as a handyman, postman and salesperson. In 1973, he was admitted to the TVB artist training class and was the third graduate. At that time, he and Ng Man Tat were classmates, and they lost more than 200 yuan to Ng Man Tat in mahjong. After graduation, he became a TVB artist and participated in the "Happy Tonight" program and many dramas (the first one was "Living in ***House" and the first drama series in which he was the protagonist was "Jianghu Boy"). Chow Yun-fat became famous in 1976 when he starred in the TV series "Frenzy" and has starred in many TV series since then. The famous TV series he starred in include "Man on the Internet" and "Shanghai Beach".
In 1975, he started making movies, and his first one was "The Reincarnation". He has won the title of "Movie Emperor" seven times. Starring in "Waiting for Dawn", he won the Best Actor Award at the 30th Asia Pacific Film Festival and the Best Actor Award at the 24th Golden Horse Awards; starring in "A Better Tomorrow", "The Legend of Dragons and Tigers" and "A Lang's Story", he also won the No. Best Actor Award at the 6th, 7th and 9th Hong Kong Film Awards. He also won the "Asia's Most Outstanding Actor Award" from the American Film Institute and South Korea.
Starting from small roles in TVB Hong Kong dramas, he slowly made the leap to the big screen. After more than 20 years of filmmaking, Fa Ge has acted in more than 60 movies and has achieved remarkable results. Whether it's a playful comedy or a serious drama, whether he's an infatuated rich man or a fair and heroic police officer, Fa Ge's performance is natural and unpretentious. In 1986, the role of the affectionate and righteous Xiao Ma Ge in "A Better Tomorrow" established Fa Ge's most famous screen image in the film industry. In 1987, he won the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor for his role in "Autumn Fairy Tale" directed by Zhang Wanting. In the film, he played an overseas student from Hong Kong who has a crush on Zhong Chuhong. "God of Gamblers" is another screen character created by Fa Ge. After watching "God of Gamblers" and the descendants of the word "gambling", you will know how successful this "God of Gamblers" is.
Wanting to have a sky in Hollywood has always been the goal of many Chinese actors, but not many people can actually realize this dream. After the success of Jackie Chan's "Rush Hour" in Hollywood, Chow Yun-fat's third Western movie is about to be released. Unlike Jackie Chan, Chow Yun-fat did not enter Hollywood through fists and kicks, but won the favor and recognition of audiences around the world with his superb acting skills and charming Asian male style.
The first Western film "The Replacement" co-produced with Mira Sorvino topped the U.S. weekend box office in its first week, and Fa Ge confirmed his foothold in the American market. In the second western film "The Edge of War", Fa Ge plays a police officer who drifts with the flow in the dirty police world and gradually forgets his former ideals and ambitions. It was not until he was influenced by Mark Wahlberg, a new police officer who is full of ideals, resolute and upright ("Dance Night" and "Don't Leave") that he began to evoke some of the justice and persistence he once had, and between reality and Struggled endlessly with ideals. Although the characters he plays are still inseparable from roles such as killers and policemen, the policeman in the film who walks in the gray area between good and evil is also a good space for him to show off his mature acting skills.
Chow Yun-fat's name has successfully entered Hollywood. Actress Jodie Foster worked with him to put "The King and I" back on the big screen and co-starred in "Anna and the King" .
In 2000, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" starring him and Michelle Yeoh became a global hit, winning him wider popularity and finally confirming his success in Hollywood. In 2007, he participated in the performance of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End", playing the role of Shao Feng, the Singapore Pirate King, opposite international superstars such as Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, and also performed wonderfully.
