2. Hangzhou

Hangzhou is the capital and sub-provincial city of Zhejiang Province. It is located on the southeast coast of China, in the north of Zhejiang Province, on the lower reaches of the Qiantang River, and at the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, between 118°21′-120°30′ east longitude and 29°11′-30°33′ north latitude; it has a subtropical monsoon climate. The geographical coordinates of the city center are 120°12′ east longitude and 30°16′ north latitude. The total area under its jurisdiction is 16,596 square kilometers, with jurisdiction over 10 districts, 2 counties, and 1 county-level city; the permanent population is 9.188 million (at the end of 2016).

Hangzhou is the political, economic, cultural, educational, transportation and financial center of Zhejiang Province. Due to its beautiful scenery, it is known as the "Paradise on Earth". Thanks to the convenience of the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal and treaty ports, as well as its own developed silk and grain industries, Hangzhou was once an important commercial distribution center in history. Later, relying on the opening of railway lines such as the Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway and Shanghai's import and export trade, light industry developed rapidly. Famous scenic spots include: West Lake, Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Xixi Wetland, Lingyin Temple, Liuhe Pagoda, Liangzhu Ruins, Xiang Lake, etc.
