IKEA is famous for its modern and unique design. Many of them are self-assembled furniture, designed as simple kits for consumers to assemble themselves, which is very different from the assembled ready-made furniture sold by other furniture stores.

These unassembled or "flat-packed" furniture are much smaller than ready-made furniture, and the cost of packaging, storage and transportation is also lower. IKEA claims that this will enable them to reduce the price of their products.
