Aha Lake is located in the southwest suburb of Guiyang, eight kilometers away, at the confluence of Youyu River, Baiyan River, Shahe River, Lanni River and Xiaohegou in Cai Chong, a tributary of Nanming River. The basin covers an area of 19 square kilometers and the runoff is about 13 million cubic meters per year. Aha Lake has been expanded and heightened for many times, and now the flood level is 1116.13 meters, with a total storage capacity of 86.58 million cubic meters. The normal water level is 111 meters, with a corresponding storage capacity of 54.2 million cubic meters and a water surface area of 4.5 square kilometers.

The water supply capacity of Aha Lake is 23, tons/day, including 18, tons/day from Nanjiao Waterworks and 5, tons/day from Riverside Waterworks. After the completion of the expansion project of Nanjiao Waterworks, it will reach 25, tons/day. It accounts for more than half of Guiyang's water supply. Therefore, all kinds of work are carried out around the urban water supply and flood control and disaster reduction effects of Aha Lake, mainly engaged in water quality monitoring, upstream water pollution control, rainfall monitoring and water source forest construction, forest protection and fire prevention in water source protection areas.
