China FAW Group Corporation, referred to as China FAW or FAW for short, is headquartered in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Its predecessor was the First Automobile Factory. The foundation stone was laid for FAW 1953, and 1956 was completed and put into operation, producing the first Jiefang brand truck in new China.
FAW's independent research and development and the continuous improvement of its core competitiveness have formed a product pattern of trucks, cars, light mini-cars and buses with many varieties and wide series. SAIC's automobile brands include Roewe, MG, SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC-GM-Wuling, SAIC Volkswagen, SAIC Volkswagen Skoda, SAIC-GM Buick, SAIC-GM Chevrolet and SAIC-GM Cadillac.
Shanghai General Motors Co., Ltd. was established in 1997, and was jointly established by Shanghai Automobile Group Co., Ltd. and General Motors Corporation. Roewe is an automobile brand owned by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation. Roewe's Chinese name incorporates the traditional elements of China, embodies China's spirit of self-improvement and profound cultural accumulation, and also conveys a classic and noble bearing.
